What is Yoga anyway?

Yoga is an ancient technology that originated thousands of years ago in India. Although the physical poses (asanas) get a lot of attention there is much more to yoga.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’ which can be translated as ‘to yoke’, ‘to join’ or ‘to unite’. The purpose of our yoga practice is to align all parts of ourselves; body, mind & heart. This alignment helps us to remember our true nature of intrinsic goodness.

This is what separates yoga from other ways we can choose to move. When we practice finding harmony within ourselves on the mat the effect is felt off the mat as well. We have an opportunity to deepen our awareness, befriend our breath, get more comfortable in working honorably at our edge. Our practice gives us an opportunity to connect with our inner guide; the Great Intuitive Heart. It also provides us with a sense of freedom from suffering.
